October 23, 2024 – ALLEGHENY VALLEY, PA – Allegheny Valley School District is launching Rachel’s Challenge, an anti-bullying initiative aimed at fostering connections and a sense of belonging among students. The program will involve fifth and sixth graders at Acmetonia Elementary and seventh through twelfth graders at Springdale Junior-Senior High School, with a community presentation scheduled at the high school on October 30th at 6:00pm. The initiative is supported by a $10,600 grant from the state’s Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
Greg Heavner, Acmetonia’s principal, emphasized that the program highlights the value of everyone’s story and promotes connection. The initiative complements existing anti-bullying efforts for younger grades and prepares students for the transition to junior high. Assistant Principal Missy Gibbon hopes the program will positively impact school culture, attendance, behavior, and academic performance, ultimately fostering a better school environment and community.
Rachel’s Challenge will also provide lessons in self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills.
