October 17, 2024 – CHATHAM, NY – At Chatham Middle School, students took an oath of kindness after participating in Rachel’s Challenge, a national program aimed at preventing school violence and bullying. As part of National Bullying Awareness Month, the program was brought to the school’s sixth and seventh graders to promote compassion and kindness.
Through the presentation, students learned about Rachel’s life and her commitment to kindness, with the goal of inspiring them to believe in themselves and show appreciation for others. The program emphasized the importance of self-awareness and empathy. Counselor Jackie Hoffman noted how the presentation encouraged students to express their emotions and support one another, fostering a family-like community within the school.
The event made a strong impact on students, reinforcing the message that being kind and forgiving are essential to building positive relationships.
