November 18, 2024 – MIAMI-DADE, FL – Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to launch a three-year mental health initiative using Rachel’s Challenge in 30 middle schools. The program, inspired by Rachel Scott’s legacy, aims to improve school climate, foster positive relationships, and prevent bullying and violence, reaching over 23,000 students. Serving one of the nation’s most diverse student populations—over 94% racial or ethnic minorities and 25% English language learners—M-DCPS will use the grant to address unique post-pandemic challenges and promote equity and inclusivity, ensuring all students can thrive.
